ARTIST TALK WITH IGNACIO LEONIDAS
In collaboration with The Bronx Documentary Center
Born in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, Ignacio Leonidas is a photographer, filmmaker, and intercultural manager whose work is deeply rooted in the exploration of cultural memory, migration, and indigenous identity. For over a decade, he has documented the complexities of Fuegian identity, focusing on the Yagán and Kawésqar communities, as well as the Bolivian diaspora in Ushuaia. His long-term projects, such as Akuerum and Paiakoala, intertwine film photography, Super 8, and alternative photographic processes to create visual narratives that preserve histories often overlooked. His work reflects a commitment to storytelling that is both personal and political, shedding light on traditions, displacement, and resilience.
