Cecilia Guerrero lives in the central part of, Mexico; Photographer and documentalist, she creates stories and through them a narrative in which she finds a imaginative place to inhabit . In her images she finds characters and gives them an existence.

When and where did you start photographing?

CG: 2003, in the Fine Arts classrooms in the State of San Luis Potosí; Mexico.

Who has been the reference of your photography?

CG: I grew up working in movie theaters, I discovered my adolescence by sneaking in to see the premieres of great Mexican filmmakers such as Alejandro González Iñárritu and Guillermo del Toro; From there I was fortunate to receive a scholarship to study photography. During this journey I met innumerable teachers but without a doubt the documentary work that strengthened me was Tierra de Brujas by Maya Goded. Another source of inspiration was knowing the work of street photography that Fermín Guzmán had been developing in 2010 when we took a scholarship from training in Pachuca, Hgo; Mexico.

What do you want to communicate through your photographs?

CG: More than communicating something, it comforts me to think that I can bring people together by observing my work (in reflection)

What does street and documentary photography mean to you?

CG: For me the two disciplines are a way of life, I can be working on a long-term documentary project and also be part of the street at any moment.

How are your life experiences reflected in the subjects we see in your photographs?

CG: I am excited by the desire to overthrow hegemonic and unidirectional ideas, which is why I look for characters out of the ordinary and transport the observer to another reality. I think about the possibilities—surviving, like theater characters on any stage, every time I go out to shoot with my camera. I think that we do what we like to surpass our existence, we act so not to go crazy but to understand each other, to intervene in the moment.
